Today, we’re embarking on an exciting journey to create our first Apple vision-OS application using Unity’s groundbreaking PolySpatial package. 🎮 We’ll set up a vision-OS sample project, install Xcode and the vision-OS simulator, and connect our Unity Editor to the simulator for easy app testing. Leveraging Existing Tools 🛠️

You can utilize familiar tools like ARFoundation, ARKit plug-in, XR Interaction Toolkit, and XR hands package, all compatible with Vision Pro. Note: Building for the Vision Pro Simulator in Xcode requires a silicon-based Mac. 🍏

Setting Up Your Development Environment 🖥️

  1. Unity PolySpatial and vision-OS: Ensure you have Unity 2022.3.11 or later, with vision-OS Build-Support and iOS Build-Support modules installed in your Unity Editor.
  2. Xcode 15.1 Beta 1 Installation: Download and install Xcode 15.1 Beta 1 from Apple’s download page. 📥
  3. vision-OS Simulator: Install the vision-OS simulator via Xcode or directly from the download center.

Creating Your First vision-OS Project 🌐

Start by creating a new Unity project using URP to maximize PolySpatial features. In Unity, switch the platform to vision-OS and select the appropriate target SDK in player settings. Build your Xcode project, add your signature, and run the simulator to see your app in action! 🖼️

  1. Windowed App: Displays 2D and 3D content in a window within the vision-OS simulator.
  2. Fully Immersive VR App: Requires a PolySpatial license. Install the vision-OS package and activate the vision-OS plugin. Don’t forget to add an “AR Session” to your scene!

Mixed Reality Modes with PolySpatial 🌈

  1. Bounded Volumes: Box-shaped spaces for displaying content, allowing multiple volumes to coexist.
  2. Unbounded Volumes: Occupy the entire mixed reality view, ideal for immersive experiences.

Building and Testing Mixed Reality Apps 🕹️

Switch the app-mode to mixed reality in the Apple Vision-OS plugin, enable the PolySpatial Runtime, and use the Volume Camera Configuration for scene setup. Test your app in the simulator to interact with volumes alongside other apps like Safari.

Unity’s upcoming tool allows testing apps directly from the Unity Editor on the vision OS simulator or the Apple Vision Pro device. Download the Xcode Link App, copy the IP address to Unity’s “Play to Device” window, and observe real-time manipulation of your volume.
